I began raising canaries in Argentina in the early 1970's.
We raised primarily color bred canaries. Color bred canaries raised mainly for
color, size, shape, posture, composition and other factors having to do with
their looks. There are a multitude of colors, including yellow, white or
red, and basic foundational colors like black or brown.
At the same time I became interested in canaries
that were bred mainly for song. Although color bred canaries sing, special
breeds of canaries have been created for their special singing abilities.
These include American Singers, Spanish Timbrados, Waterslagers, Hartz, Rollers
and others.
Finally there are a variety of types of canaries
that have different colors, sizes and shapes. Some of these are the
Borders, Lizards, Fifes, Norwich and the like.
